Acupuncture Treatment Plans
Acupuncture is a process. More than one treatment is often needed to resolve the majority of conditions. Think of acupuncture a s a process of getting stronger, where it will often take more than one traing session to see good results in the gym. One treatment solutions are possible, but not typical. It will typically take a series of treatments to resolve a majority of conditions.
Treatment plans are given based on a patient’s condition. In general, we may recommend most patients start off receiving 1-2 treatments each week for 4 to 6 weeks. Having 2 treatments each week will generally yeild more rapid results. By receiving treatments with consistency, patients achieve both immediate and long lasting results. It is generally said:
You can’t have treatments too close together, but you can have them too far apart.
In general, conditions that have been a problem for longer will take longer to resolve. Your suggested treatment plan is based on our experience treating hundreds of patients with similar conditions. You should notice gradual improvement in your symptoms after each treatment and will usually notice other improvements as well (improvements such as feeling more relaxed, better sleep, etc). It is common that results from your first treatments tend to wear off gradually and some conditions require more frequent treatment to permanently resolve.
Depending on your condition during your initial consultation, you will most likely fall into the first level of care and treatment. Level 1 objective is to relieve the acute problem so you feel better quickly. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need treatments more frequently in the beginning, typically 1-3 times a week for 3-4 weeks.
LEVEL 2: CORRECTIVE
This stage is where the lasting change happens. Level 2 treatment corrects the foundation issues for long lasting results in resolving health problem(s). The physical body and nervous system has memory, and unless that memory is retrained, the body will return to its original dysfunctional patterns. Compare the process it to training at the gym or trying to change bad habits. Consistent treatment creates a strong foundation. After re-evaluating your health concerns(s), it is typical to receive care at this level once a week for 4-12 weeks.
LEVEL 3: MAINTENANCE, WELLNESS & PREVENTION
At Level 3, you have committed to optimal health and your original issue has been resolved. To avoid a recurrence of health issues in the future, occasional “tune-ups” are important to maintain corrective changes and sustain a healthy mind & body. At this stage the body may needs a reminder to stay on a healthy track. Usually, level 3 treatments are performed 1-2 times per month.
Final Notes:
Chinese Medicine & Acupuncture has been practiced for thousands of years for a reason. Typically, a series of 10-12 treatments is performed in a short period of time and what most people don’t know, is acupuncture gains the most effective results through cumulative and frequent treatments. Most of the studies and research performed are based on the fact that acupuncture treatments are administered at least 2-3 times per week, if not daily, with breaks in courses of treatment. This has proven to be the most effective in acupuncture practice because it takes an accumulative effect on the body. You wouldn’t take one dose of antibiotics just once a week for 10 weeks or your nutritional supplement once a week to gain its beneficial effects…would you?
In China, acupuncture is practiced at least 2-3 times per week, if not daily, as mentioned above. In fact, most of the research and studies about the effects of acupuncture show that it is administered on a more frequent basis than once a week, especially for acute conditions.
