Liver Health, Liver Cleansing Diet

With so many metabolic processes happening in tandem, the Liver has more responsibility than almost any other organ in the body. Additionally, select foods that are organically grown; the liver must detoxify toxins and therefore with organically grown foods reduce this chemical load.  Foods rich in sulfur are especially beneficial. Sulfur-containing compounds are one of the primary molecules that help the liver detoxify a wide range of environmental toxins. Foods in this category would include onions, garlic, and egg yolks.  Also, the cruciferous vegetables contain unique sulfur compounds in these foods that may be especially beneficial in liver detoxification processes. Foods in this group include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collard greens, kale, and Brussels sprouts. Spices that support the Liver: turmeric, cinnamon, and licorice.

Avoid Toxins:

If you are working on Liver health it is generally best to lower your consumption of alcohol.  Alcohol forces the Liver to postpone other important functions when it is trying to metabolize excess alcohol.

Remove Bad Foods:

Fried foods and other high-fat foods (like processed foods containing hydrogenated oils) would also be particularly hard on your liver. Just as with alcohol, there is a limit to the total amount of fat than your liver can process while maintaining all of its other metabolic activities.
